Life Coaching

Frequently Asked Questions

What is life coaching?

Life coaching is a positive form of counselling which originated in the USA over a decade ago. It is concerned with your present situation and your future and does not dwell on the past. Coaching concentrates on how to get you from where you are now, to where you would like to be. Coaching is more than just a conversation. After each coaching session you will leave with a positive plan to improve your situation and with newly acquired skills to deal with obstacles as they arise. The power of coaching flows from its focus on taking action and it is these actions which help you reach and often surpass your goals more quickly than you would do alone.

Why do you need a coach?

Because when you wake up on New Year’s Day and you decide to run 5 miles every day to prepare for that marathon so many months away in September, do you do it? Unlikely. But if when you wake up on New Year’s Day you have a personal trainer to train with you until September, how much more likely do you think it will be that you achieve it? Highly likely. That’s why.

Is coaching good for CFS/ME?

I believe that people with CFS need coaching more than anybody else. If you have CFS all your dreams, goals and ambitions in life have suddenly come to a standstill. Your present feels bleak and your future looks bleak. It is hard to keep up a positive state of mind when you feel so ill. This is where a positive input from a Life Coach can be of huge benefit. Coaching is particularly suited to people with CFS because it is often conducted on the telephone. It works just as effectively as face to face coaching so you can have coaching from your own bed!

What does a Life Coach do?

A Life Coach will help you to identify and clarify what it is that you want most. She will then look at why you haven’t already achieved what you want by yourself. If you could have done it, you would have. The ‘reasons’ why you haven’t done it are your physical and emotional obstacles. Your Life Coach will give you the skills and tools you need to remove or step around those physical and emotional obstacles. Once they have been removed there is no ‘reason’ why you can’t achieve whatever it is that you want to achieve. Your Life Coach will help to keep you motivated, focused and taking steps towards what you want. She will set you on the road to success and stay with you until you are confident enough to continue forward alone.

How many sessions will I need?

It is entirely in your hands. Each session is booked as you want it. However, typically my clients benefit from 4 to 12 sessions spread over six months to a year. You may only need one or two sessions, you may want more – it is entirely up to you. Whilst you are employing me as your life coach I am 100% dedicated to supporting you in whatever decisions or actions you take and I am available by email in between sessions to support, encourage, motivate and help with any issues as they occur.

What if I am too ill to take any action?

Whether it is simply visualizing in your head your happy future, taking two steps around the sitting room or changing what you eat, you are in control of your mind and your future and there is always something you can do towards your goal. As the Dalai Lama said “A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step”.

Can I talk to you prior to booking a session?

It is very important to have a good rapport with your coach so I suggest that we have a (free) half-hour chat on the telephone to get to know each other. That way I will know whether I can help you and you can decide whether coaching is the right approach for you. Only after that would we go ahead and make an appointment.

How do you conduct your coaching?

Coaching can be conducted face to face or over the telephone. Local clients usually see me face to face whereas clients around the country or abroad use the telephone. Both methods work equally well.

How much does it cost?
