Nutrition
Good nutrition is fundamental to good physical health. Our body is built
directly out of the food that we eat so the quality of the body that you have
now reflects the quality of the food that you have eaten over the past few
years. You can not expect to have a healthy body if you choose to run it on less
than healthy food, just as you can not expect to run a car on lemonade instead
of petrol.
Unfortunately we are all so confused about what constitutes a good diet nowadays
that many of us believe that cereal for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch and
pasta for dinner is a ‘normal healthy diet’. Unfortunately this typical modern
diet is in fact based around refined and processed foods which rock our blood
sugar levels and leave us depleted of the nutrients that we need.
It is particularly vital for people with CFS to maintain balanced blood sugar
levels. Unbalanced blood sugar levels seem to be a common feature of CFS and can
create devastating physical and emotional symptoms which can also lead to
hormonal imbalance, a compromised immune system and disease.
Simple commonsense should form the basis of any nutritional change. A return to
the wholesome diet of our grandparents and away from the processed diet of
today.
If in doubt use your common sense. Don’t worry about calories, carbohydrates, GI
indexes or special diets. Just look at the food you are eating and if it has
been around for centuries it is probably good for you and will give your body
and brain the nutrients that they need. If it has been processed in any way then
don’t eat it until you are feeling much better – if then.
CFS is a sign that your body is run down and not coping. If you are like most of
us then there is plenty of room to clean up and improve your diet and you then
can not fail to improve the health and strength of your body over time.
